Bihar Kokila' Dr. Sharda Sinha Awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2025.

Dr. Sharda Sinha, the legendary folk singer affectionately known as the 'Bihar Kokila', was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2025 for her exceptional contributions to the field of Art. This honor was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu and received on her behalf by her son, Anshuman Sinha.

Born on 1 October 1952 in Hulas village, Supaul district, Bihar, Dr. Sinha was a towering figure in Indian folk music. Her melodious voice, especially in Maithili and Bhojpuri languages, became synonymous with traditional festivals like Chhath Puja, where her devotional songs are still an integral part of the celebrations.

Throughout her illustrious career, she received several prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri in 1991, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000, and the Padma Bhushan in 2018. Her passing on 5 November 2024 marked the end of an era, but her legacy continues to inspire generations of artists and music lovers.

The Padma Vibhushan stands as a testament to her lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting India's rich folk traditions.
